The Fightin' Reformers put together their most impressive 32 minutes of the season Monday night as they put away Fairview early in the second half. TCC kept their foot on Fairview's throat and coasted to an easier-than-expected 47-28 win. After the win, leading scorer and former Fairview star, Ryan LaPierre said "we still had way too many turnovers, but we were able to put some serious defensive pressure on them, and contest every shot. That allowed us to get out and run in transition." Jerome Lawson was a man possessed on the boards once again, constantly fighting 2 and 3 opposing players for the ball and coming down with each and every one. He finished with a season high 12 rebounds.
Jonathan Chasteen had his finest game of the season with a season high 4 assists and 3 rebounds to go along with 1 steal. His assist total would have been higher had some of his teammates helped him out by not missing easy layups. "We had a setback last week and I wanted to come out and help set the tone that this team won't play like that again" a determined Chasteen said. Daniel Brown seemed to have bought into that message as well. Brown, starting for the first time in weeks, was in attack mode from the beginning and we looking to drive and get fouled early and often. His poor free throw shooting was not a deterrent at all.
Sam Ali is starting to get a reputation as on opportunist. He seems to always find himself in the right spot for loose balls and he was able to do it again tonight, converting 2 easy layups by just being in the right place at the right time. "I pride myself on being a smart player. I always try to make the right play and be in the right spot. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't" he quipped. Team captain Hugh Carson had a nice bounce back game after last weeks dismal performance. He finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds. "We really focused this week on getting back to the fundamentals and playing defense and I think it showed on the scoreboard" he told the TCCNN after the game.
TCC has now beat Fairview two consecutive times, and has many questioning if this is even a rivalry at this point.
TCC's Fan Appreciation Night is next Monday Night at Taylors First Baptist Church at 7:30. There will be a team meal and autograph session at Fuddruckers on Wade Hampton prior to the game at 6:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend and get a chance to rub elbows with your favorite Reformer. TCC is asking that you please RSVP to Randy Pifer or Amber Mathis by Sunday Morning if you plan to attend the dinner portion of the night.
