The deadline to sign up is August 3, so Markham is racing against the clock. With only a handful of commitments, the season is in doubt. Monday nights are for men and Tuesdays are for coed teams. If the Reformers are unable to get at least eleven commitments the inaugural TCC Fighting Reformers softball team will have to wait till next year.
The only returning players from CGBC's 6-2 team from a year ago are 2B Donny Mathis and 1B/C Randy Pifer. Pifer seems on the fence about playing this year. "Last year Donny really laid into me on a missed ball and yelled at me in front of the tens of people in attendance. I haven't gotten over that. Every time I close my eyes I can still hear his voice... 'CATCH THE BALL!!!' Maybe its best if I just sit this year out." A source close to the situation tells the TCCNN that if TCC were to play in a coed league, Pifer may consider switching his decision based on the fact the league is traditionally less competitive and Mathis would be less inclined to yell at him.
TCC has put out an open call to anyone who is interested in playing. Please let Coach Markham or GM Pifer know as soon as possible if you want to play and if you are able to play in the men's league (Mondays') or coed league (Tuesdays').
When does the season start? Any idea where and what time the games are held? I have't played softball since my college years and it was only fast pitch - but if you go co-ed....maybe :)
